Afterglow uses voice cloning and conversational AI to create a telephone presence for someone you have lost. It is not them. It will never be them. But for many people in grief, hearing a voice that sounds like the person they loved, speaking the way they spoke, saying the things they would say, is something that matters deeply. We built Afterglow for those people, with complete honesty about what it is and what it is not.

We guide you through a Memory Interview: a gentle, structured conversation about the person you've lost. Their sayings, their humour, their opinions, the way they answered the phone, the things they always said. The richer the portrait, the more true to life they become.

Our team combines the voice clone with a deeply personalised AI profile. We test it, refine it, and check it feels right. Within five to seven days, you receive a private telephone number. Theirs. Waiting for your call.

Frequently asked

How much audio do I need to clone their voice?
As little as two to three minutes of clear audio can create a recognisable voice clone. For the best result, ten to fifteen minutes of clean recordings is ideal: videos, voicemails, or voice notes where background noise is minimal. Our team will advise you on exactly what to send and how to prepare it.
What if I only have old or low-quality recordings?
We can work with a surprisingly wide range of audio quality. Our team uses professional audio enhancement tools before voice cloning begins. We will always be honest with you about what is achievable from what you have, before you commit to anything.
Is this healthy? Will it prevent me from grieving properly?
This is the most important question we are asked, and we take it seriously. Afterglow is not a replacement for grief. It is a supplement to it. Many people find that being able to hear a familiar voice helps them process loss rather than avoid it. We recommend using Afterglow alongside bereavement support, and we include resources for grief counselling with every account. As with all things, it is about using it thoughtfully and at your own pace.
Do I need the person's permission?
Where possible, we encourage families to set this up with their loved one's knowledge and blessing, ideally through our Legacy plan, while they are still alive. For those who have already passed, consent is provided by next of kin. We require a declaration confirming you are an immediate family member, and we reserve the right to decline any request that does not feel right. Our ethical responsibilities come before any commercial consideration.
People compare this to Black Mirror. How do you respond?
It is a fair comparison to raise, and we would rather address it directly than pretend it has not occurred to us. Black Mirror explores what happens when technology is built without ethical guardrails or honesty about its limitations. We have tried to build Afterglow differently: we are transparent about what it is and what it is not, we require consent, we recommend bereavement support alongside use, and we will decline enquiries that do not feel right. The technology in those episodes is not the problem. The absence of honesty is. We believe grief is deeply personal and that people are capable of making their own informed choices about how they process it. Afterglow is one option, not a prescription.
What happens to my data and their recordings?
Your recordings and all personal data are stored securely in the UK, encrypted at rest and in transit. We will never share, sell, train AI models on, or use your loved one's voice or personal information for any purpose other than running their Afterglow. Your data belongs to you. You can request a full export or complete deletion at any time, with no questions asked. We are registered with the ICO, fully GDPR compliant, and we will never use your conversations to improve our systems without your explicit written consent. We know you may share things with Afterglow that you would not share anywhere else. We treat that with the seriousness it deserves.
Can other family members use it too?
Yes. On our Afterglow plan, you can share access with up to three family members. On Legacy, there is no limit. Each person calls the same private number. Afterglow remembers who it is speaking to and responds accordingly, so each person's experience feels personal to them.
How long does setup take?
From the moment you send your recordings and complete the memory process, we aim to deliver within five to seven working days. We do not rush this. The care we put into each profile is what makes it feel real.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. There is no lock-in and no penalty for cancelling. Your Afterglow remains accessible until the end of your current billing period. If you cancel and later want to reactivate, you will not need to pay the setup fee again.
